CPT
CPT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, has helped
many people think more clearly and feel better following a difficult experience or trauma.
CPT typically includes 12 sessions, once or twice a week, and daily homework, so that CPT may be completed in as few as 6 to 12 weeks. Faithfulness with homework correlates with treatment outcome.
The goals of CPT are for you to:
- Consider the impact of the event on what you have been thinking and how you have been feeling.
- Learn to identify and challenge problem thoughts.
- Reduce your distress level about the event.
- Increase your ability to move forward with your life.
Most people have experienced more than one difficult event. To view a brochure on CPT, and what it includes, click here.

CPT is strongly recommended by the American Psychological Association, and has also been acknowledged as effective by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. CPT is an evidence-based treatment supported by 23 randomized, controlled research studies.
